Rarity System & Sets
Rarity in Mintayn is not just scarcity—it is a design principle combining accessibility, collectibility, and storytelling. Built on NFTs (Cardano) and future Print-on-Demand, the system is transparent and fair, while maintaining the excitement of collecting.
Core Rarity Tiers
- Common – foundational cards, widely available, essential for decks.
- Rare – specialized cards with unique effects, moderate availability.
- Epic – high-impact cards tied closely to Sphere identity.
- Legendary – iconic cards, limited and prestigious.
- Mythic – story-defining cards of extreme rarity.
Balance Note: All tiers remain competitively relevant. Commons and Rares form the core of gameplay, while higher rarities add strategic depth and lore flavor, not “pay-to-win” advantages.
Digital Distribution (NFT Drops & Boosters)
- Hybrid Model: Mintayn blends structured set purchases (with transparent rarity pools) and booster-style distribution for those who enjoy the thrill of opening packs.
- Controlled Scarcity: Exact supply numbers for each rarity tier are recorded on-chain, preventing overprinting or hidden inflations.
- Special Artworks: Beyond standard sets, there will always be exclusive artworks, both digital and physical. These are distributed for:
- Community participation (guild milestones, fan art contests).
- Event attendance (festivals, conventions, local gatherings).
- Non-game contributions (charity drives, cultural collaborations).
- Dynamic Editions: Animated NFTs, serialized foils, or alternative card frames ensure ongoing collectibility without altering core gameplay.
Physical Layer – Print-on-Demand & Prestige
- On-Demand Prints: NFT holders can order official physical versions, rarity reflected through foil, embossing, or serials.
- No Waste: Every print corresponds to a true owner—sustainable and efficient.
- Prestige Options: Mythic cards or special artworks can be printed in premium formats (metallic layers, holofoil, collector’s boxes).
Set Philosophy
Sets function as story chapters, expanding both mechanics and lore:
- Base Set – foundation of Monsters, mechanics, and Spheres.
- Expansion Sets – themed around events and conflicts (e.g. The Fracture, Nyron Chronicles).
- Event Sets – small-scale drops linked to tournaments or seasonal festivals.
- Community Sets – reward collective activity (fan creations, anniversary celebrations).
Each set is both a mechanical expansion and a narrative milestone, making collecting part of the unfolding myth.
Collector Layers
- Alternate Art – unique visual interpretations.
- Foil Treatments – holographic, animated, or reactive effects.
- Serialized Editions – numbered, one-of-a-kind runs.
- Tournament Stamps – exclusive to competitive play achievements.
- Community Specials – art pieces tied to events or cultural projects, not bound to in-game performance.
Strategic Advantages – At a Glance
- Hybrid Distribution → structured fairness + booster excitement.
- On-Chain Transparency → visible supply, no hidden print runs.
- Community Engagement → artworks reward activity beyond the game.
- Collector Prestige → alternate art & premium prints add long-term value.
- Narrative Cohesion → sets follow the story, tying collection to lore.
- Sustainability → no mass waste; every card has an owner.
